On the Canal We Care

This campaign was designed to positively encourage following the rules of the trail in response to common complaints from trail users. We utilized imagery of other trail users to lead by example and made the desired actions bold.

The messages were distributed across multiple platforms, including social media (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn), signage on the trail, and in the email newsletter over the course of two months.

  • Safety
    • 🚲 Slow and steady wins the trail!
On the Canal, we care about safety—for ourselves and each other. That’s why we keep bike speeds under 15mph and give a friendly heads-up when passing. Let’s all ride responsibly and share the trail with care. 💚
    • 👣 Walking with friends is better—and safer!
Whether you’re out for a stroll, run or ride, exploring the Canal with a buddy helps keep everyone safe. Plus, it’s a great way to connect with nature and each other.
    • 🏞️ One trail, many travelers.
The High Line Canal Trail is for walkers, bikers, runners, and everyone in between. That’s why we all commit to sharing the space with respect—keeping speeds low, staying alert and looking out for one another.
Together, we make the trail safe and welcoming for all.
If you see any issues along the Canal trail, please contact the Canal Care Line to let us know.
  • Environment
    • 🐾Love your dog? Love the Canal?
Picking up after your pup helps protect the Canal ecosystem and keeps the trail clean for everyone. Let’s all do our part to keep this shared space beautiful—one bag at a time. 💩➡️🗑️
    • 🚯 Leave only footprints.
On the Canal, we carry out what we carry in. Whether it’s a snack wrapper or your coffee cup, every little bit matters. Help us keep the trail clean, green and thriving. 🌿

    • 🌱Stay on trail, protect the Canal.
Those tempting side paths? They can damage native plants and disturb wildlife habitats. Stick to the trail and help preserve the natural beauty we all come here to enjoy.
  • Community
    • 👋 A little “on your left” goes a long way!
On the Canal, we announce ourselves when passing to keep things friendly and safe. It’s a simple gesture that shows we care about our trail community.
If you see any issues along the Canal trail, please contact the Canal Care Line to let us know.
    • 🫶 Neighbors, friends, fellow explorers.
On the Canal, we look out for each other. Whether it’s offering a smile, helping someone in need, or sharing trail tips, community is at the heart of every mile.
    • 📸 The Canal is where memories are made.
From first bike rides to quiet walks with loved ones, the trail is a place for connection and joy. Thanks for making the High Line Canal a meaningful part of your story.
